As I mentioned in [AKAI MPC] The steps that Sampling~Sound materials assign to PAD, you need to TRIM the sound materials if you rec sound materials from Record or other source. And you can use the “Q-LINK” if you have AKAI MPC that including Q-LINK function.

Basic operation of TRIM
TRIM can do 8 operations like the following.
- DISCARD
- EXTRACT
- DELETE
- SILENCE
- NORMALIZE
- REVERSE
- TIME STRETCH
- PITCH SIFT
DISCARD
DISCARD is probably the highest frequency function.
DISCARD is a operation that cut out between the Start point (St) and End point (End). Except cut out part are deletion. Then, date will overwrite.
(St=B, End=C)
“AB” and “CD” are deletion. And, “BC” become a Sample.
EXTRACT
EXTRACT is mostly same as the DISCARD. But, in case of EXTRACT, cut out part is become a new Sample (Sample 2). Date will not overwrite.
(St=B, End=C)
“AB” and “CD” are deletion. And “BC” become a new Sample (as Sample 2). Sample 1 as it is.
DELETE
DELETE is inconceivably operation of DISCARD.
Deletion the selected parts, and put together front and rear of except deletion parts.
(St=B, End=C)
Selected part “BC” is deletion. Put together rear of “AB” and front of “CD”.
SILENCE
SILENCE is similar as DELETE. But, in case of SILENCE, selected parts are not deletion. Selected parts become a silence.
(St=B, End=C)
“BC” become silence. But, it’s not deletion. Thus, “AB” and “CD” are not put together, and flow is become “AB”→”BC”（silence part）→”CD”.
NORMALIZE
NORMALIZE is operation that sound’s peak adjust to 0dB.
REVERSE
REVERSE is operation that reverse the before and behind of sound material.
TIME STRETCH
TIME STRETCH is operation that shorten or extend the sound materials.
Set initial sound material’s temp to “Original tempo”, and set temp that you want to set afresh to “New”. You can select the one that you like in preset.
PITCH SIFT
PITCH SIFT is operation that can change the sound material’s pitch without change the sound material’s TIME.
Useful TRIM technique with use Q-LINK
（Q-LINK3, 4 of AKAI MPC 2500）
When you trim to sound material, you can select the Start point and End point with JOG wheel or number key. But, AKAI MPC that including the “Q-LINK” like a AKAI MPC 2500, they can do effective work with use “Q-LINK”.(Display the Q-LINK 3, 4 at above picture. But use at TRIM function are “Q-LINK 1, 2”.)
Select the Start point (St) with [Q1]
operation [Q1 slider] with push the [AFTER button of Q1], you can adjust the Start point (St).
Better method is like the this. First, select the rough Start point,. After that, do the fine adjustment with JOG wheel.
Select the End point (End) with [Q2]
After the adjust to Start point with [Q1], next adjust the End point with [Q2] (or reverse order). Operation the [Q2 slider] with push [AFTER button of Q2], you can select the End point. After that, it’s same as while ago.
